Craft Social Successes....

Well last night was Craft Social time again.... I really have so much fun at these events.  The women attending as well as leading are phenomenal.  It's worth it just to feel the energy and inspiration.  Last night I attended as a participant and was able to experience 4 different crafts.... !  I started at the doodle-icous table of Julie (visit her blog) made my way over to make a cute felt hair pin (thanks Krissy!), wandered over to the fabric cell phone holder table led by Jen and then ended up making a yo-yo holiday card led by another Jen (yo-yo mama!)  

and bonus.... I finally figured out a great gift to give my mom.... (but more on a future post!)

Well done, once again, to Jess & her fabulous friends for hosting a wonderful Craft Social!

knit two, purl two....

I met up with a friend last weekend and she helped reintroduce me to a craft I've always loved.... knitting.  I started with a very easy project...... and have already completed it....!    Isn't it amazing how it can go from this.....

 Another fabulous friend has organized a craft evening in her home... we are going to be knitting a cowl scarf, simply perfect for the beginner.... Mmmm... I have to pick out yarn.  I think that warrants a trip to Sister Arts Studio......

My hint:  Choose an easy project, aka a scarf and make it a little on the narrow side (I only cast on 16 stitches...)... the benefit is it doesn't take long at all to see progress and that motivates you to keep going... and before you know it, fini!  Amy's hint:  If you make the scarf as long as you are tall, you'll have enough length to wrap or loop with ease...!  I made mine a little longer than that and I still didn't finish the skein of yarn.... !!!

Baxter's new Bath

It finally happened... my new kitchen faucet was installed today.... oh. my. god.  Gorgeous.  and the best thing is the pressure of the spray... it is going to be wonderful to prep with that faucet... the fruits and veggies will be in water heaven and I can't wait to give Baxter a bath.... !  I'm sure he's going to love the spray, too... 

These seemingly small things, for me, are what all combine to make it right.... I am loving how the space is coming together.  I wonder if I should do a video of it all when I'm finally complete?

Although those who know me well tell me that I am never fully 'done' with anything... that one project merely leads to the next... lol...it's probably true.

fabric coil bowl .... part 1

I'm very excited about the Craft Social coming up August 14th... the first one a couple months ago actually inspired me to start my blog... I met loads of fabulous women, had fun with a new craft, and had the best time ever... The energy was incredible.

This time I'm going to lead a table and the craft I've chosen is a fabric coiled bowl. I've previously done this with a sewing machine but am modifying it a bit for hand sewing because we won't have electrical outlets handy.... here's my first go.

I love the narrow diameter of the cord I used this time, but will use something slightly thicker for the actual event so that everyone can finish their bowl that evening at the social. Initially I thought it needed to be 'perfect' to show everyone... (sometimes that gets in my way in life, too)... so I took a deep breath and snapped the pics.... just as it is. ...

what is something that is difficult for you to like, just as it is.... what makes it difficult... how do you move through it....?

what i did on my summer vacation...

Ahhhh summer vacation... I'm looking forward to a week filled with diy, decorating, cycling, watching 'the tour', grilling, Mmm... delicious wine... and fun. Here's what I've started... I'm about 1/2 way done. Love the color and can't believe I have lived with a color that I hated for 2 years just because I didn't think I could do it... I CAN DO IT...

what real or imagined limits have you overcome... how did you do it?

one step closer

I can be somewhat impulsive at times (I call it 'decisive')... although not always with the best results... so... before I paint a WHOLE kitchen the 'wrong' color, I've decided to go with the advice of friends, family, acquaintances, ... basically EVERYONE, and paint swatches on the wall and see it in the different lighting.

I don't know that I would necessarily do this every time... no, let's face it, I KNOW I wouldn't do this every time... but this time, well let's just say I'm glad I did... the colors as they appear on the wall look NOTHING like their swatches... at least in my kitchen and in this lighting... lol

I have found the perfect color choice and tomorrow the transformation begins (today it's the preparation... aka making the existing chaos even bigger!

YIKES!.... well... lol... I've been a teensy weensy bit lax in my posts... I'm furiously in the middle of everything and have made chaos in every corner of my abode. To give you a taste... here is what I'm working on for the kitchen... it is going to be DeLicIoUs! I'm introducing a new 'neutral' to my color palette...

Cool... Calm... and Collected!

It is fun to 'watch' as the internal changes I experience play out in the external surroundings of my living space. When we feel overwhelmed or that we've lost control, it is often very evident by the chaos and messes that seem to overrun our homes.... of course, some of us are simply less orderly by nature : )

As for myself, my space continues to evolve just as I do.

Recently I created a great workspace from a nook... not only is it FUNctional, but I also find it beautiful to look at... This is another example of a collage... made from many different items I've collected, assembled together to create a 'whole'....

Many thanks to my wonderful handy-woman Sue... this would not have gone nearly so well without her!
